Wireless security cameras are great additions
to any home security system. However they are not always completely
wireless. Many types of wireless surveillance systems require
being close to an outlet and a power source unless they are battery
operated. What makes the cameras wireless is that they send a
signal to a receiver that can be positioned several hundred feet
away. This signal is generally recorded onto a DVR system, and
you can either keep or delete the images for additional memory.
Wireless security cameras are currently more expensive than regular
security cameras, but as technology advances and wireless items
become more and more common in our daily lives, they are becoming
more affordable.
For optimum performance, wireless
security cameras should be placed in clear, unobstructed
areas. Care should be made to prevent walls, furniture, trees
and other interference from being between the camera and the receiver.
The signal can go through walls, most of the time, but barriers
may disrupt the signal and therefore they will tend to work best
in open areas.
Wireless security cameras come in color as well as black and
white. The difference is mainly in price, though color cameras
will provide more detailed information in the event of an intruder.
Wireless security cameras are as easy to install as other types
of surveillance systems, and you can have them installed when
you have your security system installed or you can add them as
a later date.
